NetworthIQ Tweets for 2007-05-20

  • Added comment notifications. Anytime someone leaves a comment on one of your net worth entires, tips, or blog posts, you get an email. #
  • Made the “highest rated” tips page the default view when browsing to tips. The “recent tips” page has gone dead unfortunately. #
  • Renaming “blogs” to “journals.” Not sure if that will encourage people to use the feature more, but it seems like a better term for it. #

Fantastic site, and great to see that you are constantly trying to find ways to improve it. I am very disappointed, though, that you’ve chosen to replace “Most Recent” as the default Tips page. It makes it rather less likely that new tips will be viewed. If you reverse this decision, I promise to keep that page “alive” for at least the next month.

    While I have your ear:

1.It might be a good idea to place in a more obvious place an option for making suggestions as to how the site might be improved, and, possibly to make those suggestions public.

2.The monthly entries are clearly intended for comments specific to a particular month. I think it would be very useful to have a separate tab called “My Plan”(or something like that) where members could outline their overall situation, state their various goals and plans for achieving them, and seek out other members’ opinions about alternate methods of going about certain things. This tab could contain an area for a member to note changes to his original plan, and to record successes and failures.

    KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.

P.S. It would be good to have Recent Tips and Recent Journals added to your “Community Overview”.

Also, “About Me” might me a better tab than “My Plan” suggested above.

HI carr_likean, thanks for the comments and encouragment. I just noticed the comments here (apparently my Wordpress comment notification wasn’t working), so I apologize for the delay.

I’ll switch the default view back and would love to see you keep it going :-). Look for it later tonight.

The “my plan” idea is great. I’ve been thinking about this area, similar to how many social sites ask you questions about your interests, but with a financial angle, and your thoughts are very helpful to get this going faster. If you don’t mind I’ll run some ideas by you as I start to design how this will work and see what you think?

I’m not sure about making suggestions public. I do like the idea in general, but I’m not the quickest at turnaround these days so it would depress me (and perhaps some of you) to see things hang around forever. But, I would like to be transparent and let the community drive the site as much as possible, so I’ll see what I can do here.
