  • It’s not good idea to truncate content (for summary puposes) if you allow html in said copy. Whoops, need to get that fixed. #
  • Charles Schwab sponsoring Gather.com’s money section. Interesting. Need to work on selling sponsorships/ads a little more. #

NetworthIQ Tweets for 2007-04-24

  • The most frustrating thing ever, I actually get an hour to code and have to spend it fighting with ASP.NET rather than getting feature done. #
  • Google link selling debate presents a dilemma. Link sales are now 80% of revenue. Google provides 30% of traffic. Which would you choose? #
  • Wrote first powershell script today. It’s big step up for Windows scripting, but nothing that would convince a *NIX user to switch. #

  • Working on database backup script, ended up doing it in a plain ol’ batch file. I’ll need to play more with Powershell though. #
  • Another partner is beginning analysis scripts, want to be able to calculate stats for each net worth category (i.e median house value) #
  • Also looking to run analysis for all net worth entries in a given month, seeing what trends we can find. The “NetworthIQ Index” #
  • Merging Subversion branch started for MySql migration back into the trunk. Merging is never fun. #

How people spend their tax refund

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

You may remember, we partnered with InstaFILE earlier this year to develop a fun game for choosing the best use of a tax refund. By an overwhelming margin, Paying off credit cards, was the winner. It received nearly twice as many votes of the second place finisher.

Here’s the final results.

Snuck in a small international update

Monday, April 16th, 2007

With the move yesterday, I snuck in our first international bits. You can select your country when registering and for those already using NetworthIQ, you can select it on your account page after logging in. All figures are expected to be in US dollars, but I’ll be working to get a currency selection and listing by country in there soon.

Supporting other countries has been by far the more frequent suggestion, so I’m excited to start spreading our wings beyond the US borders.

Settling into our new home

Monday, April 16th, 2007

In case you missed it, we were down for a couple of hours yesterday morning while we moved to a new server. All in all, the move went pretty smoothly and the site is performing much better. To the extent that we can check, all data appears intact, but if you see any issues, please let us know.
