Technical Difficulties
Wednesday, October 19th, 2005Our web host is having some network difficulties and NetworthIQ is currently offline. We hope that the problem is resolved quickly, and will update the status as we hear more.
We appreciate your patience.
[Update]
As of about 10:00 am (pacific), we’re back online.
3 month progress report
Sunday, October 16th, 2005Yesterday was the three month mark for NetworthIQ. Here’s a quick recap of where we’re at:
1155 registered users
974 have entered their net worth
450 public profiles
We have a number of challenges now in keeping NetworthIQ growing. With the blogging features (entries, comments, rss feeds, permalinks, archives) almost all out the door (only archives are remaining), we’re getting ready to turn our attention to the most mentioned issues with the feedback we’ve received: cleaning up the net worth entry and management, discouraging bogus entries, reviwing our survey questions and demographic categories, creating more robust viewing capability, and finding new ways to explore profiles.
That will probably keep us busy for a while. But, don’t worry there’s plenty more on the list after that. The feedback has been great, keep it coming.
More feeds
Sunday, October 16th, 2005Added a few more RSS feeds this weekend. All of the user listing pages are now available as a feed. Track all new public profiles, or just a particular demographic group. Look for the little orange icon at the bottom of the listings pages.
Here’s the feed for new public profiles.
Neat Google search
Thursday, October 13th, 2005This is a pretty neat Google search that shows all of the public charts on NetworthIQ:
http://images.google.com/images?q=networthiq
Not all of them are there yet, but it gets us thinking about some cool stuff we could do on the site.
RSS feeds available (Web 2.0 here we come)
Thursday, October 13th, 2005We like to think that our site fits into the Web 2.0 model pretty nicely. It’s social, it relies on user generated content, and now you can take your data with you with our just released RSS feeds.
Every public profile has a RSS feed available. You can click on the orange RSS icon at the bottom of the user’s page to get the feed. Chances are that if you’re reading this and using the site you know what RSS is. But, if you don’t know, that’s ok, something like only 6% of internet users use it. RSS is a web site syndication format, it allows you to keep track of sites without having to actually visit them. You use a feed reader (Bloglines, Newsgator, My Yahoo, etc.), and it will periodically check the site for updates and let you know when new stuff is available.
What this means for NetworthIQ users is that you can now keep track of your (or anyone else’s) public profile and be notified when new net worth entries are made, or when a comment is added.
Moved feed to Feedburner
Tuesday, October 11th, 2005Being the stats junkie that I am, and in preparation for the day we eventually move off of blogger, the feed for this blog is now being hosted by Feedburner. The new address is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/networthiq.
