Weblogs Inc. to launch personal finance blog

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Big news in personal finance blogs, with the revelation (via Micro Persuasion) that Weblogs Inc. (home of Engadget and many others) is going to launch their own personal finance blog.

What impact do think this will have on the pf blog world? I believe most pf blogs’ popularity come from their personal feel. Will the WIN blog have a similar angle, or will it just be about financial products? Either way, I Can’t wait to find out.

We do the work so you don’t have to

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

Earlier this week we launched a new feature on the site we like to call the NetworthIQ Badge. The badge is a simple way (just one line of code) to include your current net worth directly into your blog or site. No more having to manually update your site every month when your net worth changes. Just by keeping your NetworthIQ account up to date, your site will always be current.

The badge links back to your profile and is customizable. You can specify width, height and chart color. To see an example, take a look at alsymer’s blog (alsymer being one of the NetworthIQ developers).

Let us know what you think, likes/dislikes. The feedback has been great, keep it coming. The next couple weeks of work on the site is a direct result of user feedback.

Comparisons are finally here!

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

This morning we launched the comparison feature. This new feature allows all registered users to see how your net worth compares to all NetworthIQ users as well as each of the demographic areas (age, income, occupation, education). Just click the “Comparison Report” link in the top menu bar to get your customized report.

Check it out and let us know what you think. If you haven’t signed up yet, this is a great reason to do so. The comparison report gives you a much more in depth comparison than you can get browsing public profiles.

Has it been a month already?

Friday, August 12th, 2005

Well, not quite, but four weeks anyway. I can’t believe how fast time goes. Work on the site has slowed a bit the last couple weeks as we tend to other priorities. However, we have managed to do a little work on a few updates that should be rolling out soon.

Just like the pf bloggers track their net worth, I’ve been tracking our progress here. Today we hit 200 users, with 87 public profiles. Hitting a nice round number before the end of the month is rather convenient, I think, though it is well short of the 500 I mentioned in the first week (but, hey, there’s still a couple days left). Let’s make 500 users a goal to reach by the end of two months as we try to wrap up the beta period and extend NetworthIQ’s reach.

Age groups have changed

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

The feedback that we’ve received has been outstanding. Many great ideas and suggestions. One of the most frequent was that the age groups were too large. So, we have reclassified them into 5 year increments. You can update your group by going to the “My Account” page in the site.
